The porn industry is still railing against the likely introduction of the .XXX Top Level Domain with Violet Blue writing on the Carnal Nation blog she describes ICM Registry as "the professional URL grafters" with no support from the porn industry.

ICANN's New gTLD Draft Applicant Guidebook Gives Added Protection to Trademark Holders

ICANN logoICANN released the fourth version of their Draft Applicant Guidebook for potential new generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) applicants last week with several issues of interest to brand owners and trademark holders. The latest draft of the guidebook has changed in only a few areas from version three and will be a topic of discussion at the upcoming ICANN meeting in Brussels, commencing on 21 June.

DomainIT Relaunches iGoldRush Website

Originally founded in 1996 by Domain Investor Edwyn Hayward (who now operates Memorable Domains) iGoldrush was operated by his partner Paul Goldstone (who is founder, CEO & president of DomainIt) from 2000 forward. In 2009 the site underwent a redesign and was relaunched in April 2010 with the help of Victor Pitts a former Moniker employee who now works for the registrar DomainIt. IGoldrush is an informational website about the domain name space.

Demand Media Investigating IPO with the help of Goldman Sachs

According to an article in the Financial Times, Demand Media has hired Goldman Sachs to explore an initial public offering. The company, founded by the former chairman of Myspace, Richard Rosenblatt, owns registrars eNom, BulkRegister, parking company Hotkeys and operates the NameJet drop catching site in partnership with Network Solutions. Aside from owning a domain portfolio, which includes a large number of expired domain names, the company also runs a user generated content production service called Demand Studios. The content is then published on Demand’s websites, such as eHow. The company’s freelance workers produce about 4,000 video clips and articles per day.

'Fast tracking' domain name and trade mark disputes in Australia

A recent Australian Federal Court 'Fast Track List' decision confirmed that use of a trade mark in a domain name, along with use of the trade mark on associated web sites, can constitute trade mark infringement. This list is an increasingly important part of a trade mark owner's arsenal in dealing with trade mark infringement and misuse of domain names.
